Why do I focus on creating happy businesses?


Many years ago, I realised I was chasing some of the wrong things in my career. I've had some amazing times, but I've also not been as happy as I could be.

When my father passed away, it really brought it home to me because even though he had dreams and aspirations, he had this wonderful ability to be content in the moment, to be happy. I realised I wasn't. So when I started my business, it wasn't just about a business, it was a quest for happiness. To finally get the right balance, opportunities and the life that I really wanted.

As I've got older, I've also learned not to compromise on my happy. That's why when I looked at my business and how it was set up, I really focused in on the things that were going to make me happy. I thought about what services do I enjoy delivering the most? Who do I love working with? This outlook reshaped and reframed my business.

But I'm also someone who has over 25 years of business experience, so I know that just doing things that I love isn't enough. The business must be happy too. And that means it's got to be profitable, sustainable, attract the right types of clients and deliver the right level of service. So now I take a very blended approach to developing business.

It's no longer success without happiness, or happiness without success. We can have both and create a business that we absolutely love being in, that also is healthy, strong and delivers to us the life that we truly want.

We create our business, we build on it and we grow it,

In our businesses we are always creating. Such as, new solutions, ways of working, processes, campaigns ….the list goes on. To make sure we keep evolving we need to nurture these creations and build on them. Then we can grow them.

I apply this to everything I do in my business. I see it all as something to develop and its starts with that creation. Building on it is all about refinement and effectiveness. Once this is in place I can scale and grow it.
